Fun-Challenged

For those that are fun-challenged, like me, here are some suggestions for incorporating more fun in your life:

  1. seek out laughter- whether it's watching standup comedy, listening to a funny podcast or looking up ridiculous dad jokes online, we can be proactive with laughing. There are actual physical and emotional benefits to laughing too!

    • it soothes stress

    • decreases your heart rate and blood pressure

    • it can relieve pain

    • it can trick you into being in a better mood

  2. laugh at yourself- I personally take myself waaaaay too seriously. It's been awesome having kids to laugh at the mixups in life and realize I want to respond to mess ups like them- with humor and laughter!

  3. be intentional about enjoying the little things- fun can happen in short periods of time. Make time for tiny indulgences that make you happy! Maybe a yummy treat or waking up early to watch the sunrise.

  4. be spontaneous- this is definitely easier for some versus others. I have a very hard time being spontaneous- it takes a lot of emotional capacity, so I plan spontaneity. I realize my Fun-friends are rolling their eyes, but the struggle is fo' real for some of us!!

  5. revisit things that made you happy as a kid- I loved making scrap books, building forts, fishing, listening to CDs, and dancing when I was kid. I can still do all these things!

  6. learn about having fun- read books about the concept, listen to podcasts, take an active role in developing your FUN Capacity! Check out anything that Annie F Downs does- her platform is "That sounds fun!"

  7. let a kid be in charge- No doubt they'll come up with the most ridiculous things that will bring laughter and joy into your life!

  8. pray about it-  Ask God for opportunities to let loose and enjoy life!

I hope this was helpful for my FUN-Challenged friends.
