Fun-Challenged
For those that are fun-challenged, like me, here are some suggestions for incorporating more fun in your life:
seek out laughter- whether it's watching standup comedy, listening to a funny podcast or looking up ridiculous dad jokes online, we can be proactive with laughing. There are actual physical and emotional benefits to laughing too!
it soothes stress
decreases your heart rate and blood pressure
it can relieve pain
it can trick you into being in a better mood
laugh at yourself- I personally take myself waaaaay too seriously. It's been awesome having kids to laugh at the mixups in life and realize I want to respond to mess ups like them- with humor and laughter!
be intentional about enjoying the little things- fun can happen in short periods of time. Make time for tiny indulgences that make you happy! Maybe a yummy treat or waking up early to watch the sunrise.
be spontaneous- this is definitely easier for some versus others. I have a very hard time being spontaneous- it takes a lot of emotional capacity, so I plan spontaneity. I realize my Fun-friends are rolling their eyes, but the struggle is fo' real for some of us!!
revisit things that made you happy as a kid- I loved making scrap books, building forts, fishing, listening to CDs, and dancing when I was kid. I can still do all these things!
learn about having fun- read books about the concept, listen to podcasts, take an active role in developing your FUN Capacity! Check out anything that Annie F Downs does- her platform is "That sounds fun!"
let a kid be in charge- No doubt they'll come up with the most ridiculous things that will bring laughter and joy into your life!
pray about it- Ask God for opportunities to let loose and enjoy life!
I hope this was helpful for my FUN-Challenged friends.
