Thoughtful Questions to ask around the Holiday Table
I LOVE asking questions. I would actually prefer to ask questions versus answer them...they may also mean that I'm still working on my level of vulnerability too. I love how a provocative question can get someone thinking in a new way! I also love learning how people think, which helps me understand them at a new level. The fact that Jesus himself asked questions is another reason I love this strategy of getting to know people.
Some other perks of asking questions is that it encourages intimacy! You get to peek inside their mind and connect with them in a new way. Asking thoughtful questions is also a characteristic of a good leader. Good leaders are curious and open to learning new and interesting ideas, which helps broaden our mindset and view the world from various perspectives.
Our world is loud and distracting, so being able to give someone my full attention and listen intently enough to ask questions to get deeper is a privilege! I realize at times I have to tone it back a notch because I could start to sound like an interrogator, but ultimately I've found people love being asked questions as long as you're listening.
That's one of the reasons I really love coaching. I get to ask questions that fuel innovation, curiosity, and encourage positive change! Asking questions in a group setting, whether it's a group of women I'm coaching or a gathering of people around my dinner table, the amount learned is exponential! The holidays are such a great time to gather people into your home and get to know them on a deeper level, broaden our perspectives, develop our leadership skills, and encourage intimacy.
This takes intention, because we can talk about surface topics and leave feeling uninspired, challenged or connected with people. Which is why this year for those lucky souls that will be around my table for the holidays, we're going to be asking these 10 thoughtful questions to get to know each other a little more! I believe each one helps us peek into WHO someone is.
